We weren’t kids sharing candy or jokes by walking shadow poetry

Everyone talks about childhood friends,
The ones you grew up with, side by side,
But no one really mentions the friend you find,
When you’re lost, struggling in life’s rough tide.

It wasn’t on the playground or in the schoolyard,
But somewhere between bills and sleepless nights,
Somewhere between failures and new beginnings,
I found you, in the chaos of grown-up fights.

We weren’t kids sharing candy or jokes,
But adults sharing burdens no one else could see,
Learning how to keep going when hope seemed thin,
You stood beside me, just letting me be me.

When the world felt too big, too fast, too loud,
You were the quiet in the storm, the calm in the rush,
We didn’t need words, just the presence was enough,
That silent understanding, that gentle hush.

You saw me in moments I thought I’d break,
When dreams slipped through fingers like sand,
You held me up with your silent strength,
Teaching me that it’s okay to not always have a plan.

We didn’t grow together like kids do,
We grew because we had to, because life was hard,
And through the grind, the tears, the small wins,
You were the one standing there, always on guard.

I didn’t need to explain the weight I carried,
You just knew, in that unspoken way we share,
No childhood memory could ever compare,
To the bond that grew through adult despair.

So here’s to the friend I found in the madness,
The one who saw the cracks but never judged,
Who walked with me, step by step, through the mess,
And still stayed when the world held a grudge.

Because those are the friends that matter the most,
Not the ones from childhood’s fleeting fun,
But the ones who come in the midst of survival,
And stay, until the fight is won.

So no, we didn’t start as kids on swings,
But we built a friendship that’ll outlast the pain,
Through the sweat, the tears, the late-night talks,
We found something real, something that’ll remain.

And in this adult world, where it’s hard to stand,
I’m just grateful I found your hand.
