{"id":3233,"date":"2025-04-21T11:55:19","date_gmt":"2025-04-21T11:55:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/walkingshadowpoetry.com\/blog\/?p=3233"},"modified":"2025-04-21T11:55:21","modified_gmt":"2025-04-21T11:55:21","slug":"no-more-pouring-from-an-empty-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/walkingshadowpoetry.com\/blog\/no-more-pouring-from-an-empty-cup\/","title":{"rendered":"No More Pouring from an Empty Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I used to give.<br>And then I gave some more.<br>Even when my hands trembled,<br>Even when my soul ached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At first, I felt proud,<br>Being the one who showed up,<br>Who answered every late-night call,<br>Who made space for others even when I had none left for myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But over time, I noticed something.<br>They only came around when they needed something.<br>They treated me like an option,<br>Not a priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I gave love,<br>I gave time,<br>I gave energy,<br>I gave pieces of myself that never returned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, they offered excuses.<br>They stayed silent.<br>They gave just enough to keep me holding on,<br>But never enough to feel whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Still, I kept giving.<br>Because I believed kind people should.<br>So I gave.<br>I served.<br>I stretched.<br>I broke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eventually, I saw the truth,<br>That wasn\u2019t kindness.<br>I ignored my own needs in the name of loyalty.<br>I loved them more than I ever loved myself.<br>I called it patience, but really\u2026 it was pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So now?<br>I\u2019ve stopped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I won\u2019t carry the weight alone while they stand and watch.<br>I won\u2019t clap for those who never show up for me.<br>I won\u2019t pour from an empty cup and wait for someone to notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From now on,<br>If it\u2019s not mutual, I walk away.<br>If it drains me, I pull back.<br>If it wounds me, I let go.<br>If I show up and they don\u2019t, I stop showing up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because I deserve peace too.<br>I need people who fill me like I fill them.<br>I deserve to feel chosen,<br>Not used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And yes, I\u2019ll still love,<br>But I won\u2019t lose myself again.<br>I won\u2019t forget how it feels to be held.<br>I won\u2019t confuse pain with loyalty anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So here\u2019s my vow:<br>No more overgiving.<br>No more begging for the bare minimum.<br>No more shrinking just to keep others close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ll give where I\u2019m valued.<br>I\u2019ll invest where growth flows both ways.<br>I\u2019ll stay where I feel seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m not a bottomless well.<br>I\u2019m not a plan B.<br>I\u2019m not here to prove I\u2019m worthy again and again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Starting now,<br>I choose peace.<br>I choose balance.<br>I choose me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because I finally understand,<br>Loving others should never mean losing myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/walkingshadowpoetry.com\/blog\/they-promised-to-meet-againbut-death-came-first\/\">They Promised to Meet Again\u2026But Death Came First<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/walkingshadowpoetrykenya?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&amp;igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==\">https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/walkingshadowpoetrykenya?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&amp;igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"RAISED IN A BROKEN HOME AND KNOWS LOVE TO BE WAR BY WALKING SHADOW POETRY.\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VMpOY2j7Wiw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I used to give.And then I gave some more.Even when my hands trembled,Even when my soul ached.
