{"id":3324,"date":"2025-06-23T10:22:58","date_gmt":"2025-06-23T10:22:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/walkingshadowpoetry.com\/blog\/?p=3324"},"modified":"2025-06-23T10:23:02","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T10:23:02","slug":"a-working-moms-silent-pain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/walkingshadowpoetry.com\/blog\/a-working-moms-silent-pain\/","title":{"rendered":"A Working Mom\u2019s Silent Pain."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I still remember the way you called me out,<br>Right there in the hallway, no warning, no doubt.<br>My daughter\u2019s tiny fingers curled tight in my hand,<br>And there you were, like a storm, taking a stand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You pointed at the file I misplaced last week,<br>Your voice raised high; even so, my strength felt weak.<br>You didn\u2019t ask if I had slept that night,<br>Nor wondered if I\u2019d made it home before daylight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You didn\u2019t notice her shy, small, and still,<br>Standing there, taking in your every will.<br>Her eyes like mine, wide with fear,<br>She clutched my leg as you drew near.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wish you&#8217;d pulled me aside to talk,<br>Or at least waited until we took that walk<br>To the corner office, closed the door,<br>Instead, you spilled it all on the hallway floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You said I was sloppy, unfocused, slow,<br>That I let important deadlines go.<br>But my little girl looked at me strange,<br>As though, in seconds, her mom had changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She didn\u2019t know the bills I pay,<br>Or how I juggle two jobs every day.<br>She didn\u2019t see the sleep I lose,<br>Trying to choose between rent or shoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All she saw was her hero fall,<br>Because you chose a crowded hall<br>To speak your truth, or maybe your pride,<br>While she stood frozen by my side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you know how hard I worked that week?<br>How I skipped meals and felt too tired to speak?<br>Still, I carried both her bag and mine,<br>And somehow showed up on time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, I made a mistake, I won\u2019t deny,<br>But even machines break down and cry.<br>You didn\u2019t see the humanity there,<br>Just the error, not the wear and tear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You called it feedback. I call it pain.<br>Now, every morning, I must explain<br>To a five-year-old why grown-ups shout,<br>And why they sometimes throw others out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You could have waited, just a while,<br>So I could walk her out with a smile.<br>Then tell me gently what went wrong,<br>In a space where shame doesn\u2019t belong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because we are more than our work and pace,<br>We\u2019re parents, people, hearts with a face.<br>So next time you feel the need to scold,<br>Please, look around. Be kind. Be bold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Correct in love in dignity too,<br>For little ones are watching you.<br>It\u2019s not weakness to wait, or hold a space;<br>In fact, it\u2019s strength when compassion takes place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So here\u2019s my ask, not a grudge or fight,<br>Just be mindful when you\u2019re proving you\u2019re right.<br>Because behind this badge, this blouse, this file,<br>Is someone\u2019s world.
