{"id":5520,"date":"2026-04-06T12:30:41","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T12:30:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/walkingshadowpoetry.com\/blog\/?p=5520"},"modified":"2026-04-06T12:31:20","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T12:31:20","slug":"powerful-survival-awareness-and-escape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/walkingshadowpoetry.com\/blog\/powerful-survival-awareness-and-escape\/","title":{"rendered":"Powerful Survival, Awareness, and Escape"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We didn\u2019t walk into work.<br>We walked into survival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every morning felt like signing a quiet agreement<br>that today, again,<br>we would shrink ourselves<br>just to keep a paycheck alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We found ourselves in spaces<br>where silence was safer than honesty,<br>where speaking up felt like handing in your own resignation letter<br>before you even sat down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They never told us our worth,<br>they edited it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cut it down to numbers on a payslip,<br>reduced dreams into figures after tax,<br>made us believe that rent, food, and fear<br>were enough reasons to stay small.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So we stayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We swallowed disrespect like medicine we never asked for.<br>We laughed at jokes that cut too deep,<br>nodded at decisions that broke us slowly,<br>clapped for people who never saw us as equal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because bills don\u2019t wait.<br>Because survival doesn\u2019t ask permission.<br>Because dignity feels expensive<br>when your life depends on being small.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of us made it out.<br>Saved enough.<br>Planned enough.<br>Escaped quietly without alerting the guards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others stayed, trapped by responsibilities heavier than their dreams,<br>haunted by a system that rewarded betrayal<br>and punished honesty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And there were bosses,<br>some toxic without even knowing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You think you lead,<br>but sometimes, you just take up space.<br>You don\u2019t see the way your \u201cjust checking in\u201d feels like surveillance.<br>The way your tone shuts down a room faster than silence ever could.<br>You think you\u2019re motivating us.<br>We\u2019re just surviving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leadership isn\u2019t about authority.<br>It\u2019s about awareness.<br>Notice the sighs, the hesitations, the quiet corners.<br>Reflect. Listen. Apologize. Adjust.<br>Invite voices you normally tune out.<br>Give credit before criticism.<br>Pause before reacting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your team isn\u2019t your reflection.<br>They\u2019re people.<br>And a healthy workplace doesn\u2019t need fear,<br>it needs respect, clarity, and acknowledgment<br>that you don\u2019t know it all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And while some bosses can change,<br>sometimes the environment is extreme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When respect is a rumor,<br>when honesty becomes dangerous,<br>when fear and silence are the currency of survival,<br>you are no longer employed, you are imprisoned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You could stay. You could hope.
