Leave the Door Open by Walking Shadow Poetry Kenya

She walked in, shoulders high,
A single woman in a room full of power,
She took her seat, spoke her mind,
But something inside whispered, go further.

Taking up space is just the start,
But what’s the point if you stand alone?
If no other woman follows behind,
Then the battle is only half-won.

She climbed the ladder, rank by rank,
Fought through whispers, doubts, and stares.
But climbing alone feels so cold,
If no one else is standing there.

So she turned and stretched her hand,
Lifted a sister, then another.
She knew the weight was lighter shared,
When women rise, they rise together.

Don’t just sit, pull up more chairs,
Speak their names in rooms of power.
If you’re the first, don’t be the last,
Make way, this is our hour.

And when the walls feel too tight,
When doors won’t budge, no matter the fight,
Break them down, kick them wide,
So another woman walks inside.

Because a victory is not complete,
Until the room is filled with change.
One woman’s step is not enough,
Until many walk the same.
