Moment of Defeat.

In the quiet of the evening,
When shadows stretch long and deep,
I sat with my thoughts heavy,
A mountain too tall to leap.

The day had been a battle,
Every step a weary stride,
Each effort met with failure,
No solace found inside.

I tried my best, I promise,
Pushed through the doubt and fear,
But every door I knocked on
Was closed, no answer near.

My heart sank like a stone,
Dreams shattered at my feet,
I felt the weight of failure,
A sorrow dark and complete.

Tears welled up unbidden,
A lump rose in my throat,
The sting of disappointment
Was all my efforts wrote.

I questioned my own worth,
Wondered why I even tried,
In the mirror saw a stranger,
With nowhere left to hide.

But even in this darkness,
A whisper soft and true,
Reminded me of courage,
And the strength to start anew.

You see, Defeat may bruise and batter,
Leave scars upon your soul,
But it won’t steal your spirit,
Or the fire that makes you whole.

For in each moment of failure,
There’s a lesson to be learned,
A chance to rise and conquer the land,
With every corner turned and every pain bound.

So I’ll wipe away my tears,
Stand tall and face the night to overcome my fears,
For even in defeat,
I’ll find the strength to fight.
