Dear stranger,
I used to be just like you.
I used to think that keeping the peace
Meant letting everyone else disrupt mine.
I used to sit quietly under the weight
Of someone else’s bad mood, walking on eggshells,
Telling myself that if I just held on a little longer,
If I was just sweeter, kinder, more available…
They’d finally see my value.
They never did.
Because you can’t make someone appreciate
A price tag they never intended to pay.
You can’t force someone to value a soul
They only intended to use.
If you do not understand your own worth,
People will treat you like you’re disposable.
They will step on you, unapologetically,
And walk away without a single backward glance.
They will ruin your comfort,
Wreck your sleep,
And call it a compromise.
But here is the hard truth we both need to hear,
The one that stings but saves:
Nobody is entitled to fight for your worth.
No one is going to act as your emotional bodyguard.
There is no knight in shining armor coming to rescue you
From the people you keep letting into your life.
You have to stand up.
You have to be the one to reclaim your space.
This isn’t about running away
From every difficult conversation,
Or hiding away in isolation.
It’s about standing your ground
And drawing a line in the sand
With permanent marker.
It’s about creating boundaries that say,
“I love you, but I love me more.”
It takes a personal initiative
To stop the self-pity cycle,
To look in the mirror and say, “No more.”
Stop thinking you deserve the worst things
Just because you’ve gotten used to the taste of them.
Stop romanticizing your suffering.
Being broken wasn’t your choice;
The fractures were handed to you by careless hands.
But staying broken?
That’s a daily decision you make
Every time you allow the disrespect to slide.
Choose to heal today.
Choose to be fiercely selective
About who gets access to your energy.
Add that tax to your value,
Stand tall in your own space,
And never offer a discount again.
