The Poison We Drank by walking shadow poetry.

We let greed take over,
Let it quietly whisper,
Until it became a voice louder than our own.
We lost sight of what truly matters,
Chasing after things that never filled the emptiness.

We allowed contentment to slip away,
Thinking we needed more to be happy,
That what we had wasn’t enough.
We didn’t stop to appreciate what we were blessed with,
And soon, we were consumed by the hunger for more.

In our search for more,
We gave up peace for anxiety,
We traded joy for stress,
And we sold our happiness for temporary satisfaction.
We thought we were smart,
That getting ahead would make us better,
But instead, we just dug deeper into a hole of regret.

We drank the poison,
Expecting it to harm someone else,
But the only person it hurt was us.
We thought we could control everything,
That we could play the game without consequences.
But here we are,
Overpowered by the very things we thought we could master.

Now we’re left picking up the pieces,
Realizing that greed, like a slow poison,
Has eaten away at our souls.
It promised us more,
But all it gave us was emptiness.
We expected someone else to fall,
But it was us who were brought to our knees.

It’s hard to admit,
But we were the ones who let ourselves down.
We got lost in the chase,
Thinking that more would fill the gap,
But it only made the gap wider.
We didn’t listen to the quiet voice inside,
The one that told us to be content, to be thankful,
But we ignored it, thinking we knew better.

Now we see the truth
That peace, real happiness,
Doesn’t come from more things,
It comes from being enough with what we have.
We’ve learned the hard way,
That sometimes the greatest riches are found in the simple things,
In gratitude, in family, in love.

We can’t change the past,
But we can learn from it.
We can stop chasing shadows
And start living in the light of what really matters.
It’s not too late to change,
To find contentment in the here and now,
And to stop drinking the poison of more.

Because in the end, it’s not what we have,
But how we appreciate it,
That truly makes us rich.
