When Being Chosen Feels Strange

Sometimes, you get so used to being an option
that being chosen feels unfamiliar,
almost like a trick,
like something that might disappear
The moment you believe in it.

You start to question everything.
Kindness feels suspicious.
Consistency feels temporary.

Because you remember
What it was like before.

Friendships where you had to prove yourself,
over and over again.
Spaces where your presence
needed justification.

You gave your time freely,
Yet still felt like you had to earn theirs.
You showed up fully,
Yet still felt half-seen.

It was exhausting, trying to be enough
for people who had already decided
You were not.

There were moments
You felt like an extra in your own story,
standing on the side
while others took center stage.

And somehow, You stayed. You tried harder.
Gave more. Hoped louder.

Until it became normal to feel overlooked.

Then life shifted quietly, without warning.

New people came in, not ahead of you,
not behind you, but beside you.

Walking with you. Choosing you.
Seeing you. And instead of feeling safe,
You felt afraid.

Afraid it wouldn’t last.
Afraid you would mess it up.
Afraid they would leave
the moment things got hard.

Because that’s what you knew.

People who stayed
only when it was easy.
People who left
when you needed them most.

They disappeared in your storms
and returned in your sunshine,
as if nothing had changed.

And without realizing it,
You learned to fear love.

Not loudly. Not obviously.
But quietly, in the way you doubted good things,
in the way you held back, in the way you waited
for the other shoe to drop.

Until you met something different.

Real care. Real presence. Real people.

The kind that don’t make you chase them.
The kind that doesn’t disappear
when life gets heavy.

The kind that choose you on purpose,
not out of convenience.

It didn’t feel normal at first.
It felt uncertain,
almost too good to trust.

But slowly, you began to see it,

Not everything is a setup.
Not everyone is temporary.

Some people stay. Some people mean it
When they say they care.

And maybe that’s what growth looks like,
learning to accept love
without fear, rewriting it.

Understanding that seasons change.
That’s not everyone you meet
is meant to hurt you.

And that one day, in your own time,
You will find people
who choose you
without hesitation.

Not halfway. Not sometimes. But fully.

And when that happens, you’ll realize,

You were always worth choosing.
